What is Mueller Industries (MLI), and what does it report?
Short answer · as of
Mueller sells tubing, fittings, valves, line sets, heat exchangers, forged and machined components, plus related plumbing products sourced for resale.
Research dated 2026-09-13.
Mueller sells tubing, fittings, valves, line sets, heat exchangers, forged and machined components, plus related plumbing products sourced for resale. Orders ultimately reflect construction, plumbing, refrigeration, manufactured housing and climate-equipment activity among wholesalers, retailers, distributors and equipment makers. Revenue therefore measures a blend of manufactured output and distribution activity, not merely copper fabrication.
Reporting separates Piping Systems, Industrial Metals and Climate. Piping Systems is the dominant revenue engine, so the breadth of Mueller’s catalog does not remove its dependence on plumbing and refrigeration channels.
What do the latest results show for Mueller Industries (MLI)?
Short answer · as of
The most recent reported quarter, Q2 FY2026, carried revenue of $1.43B.
Research dated 2026-09-13.
The latest reported period delivered the strongest revenue, gross profit, net income and diluted earnings in the recent quarterly sequence. Revenue climbed much faster than operating profit from the preceding period, however, leaving operating conversion below the immediately prior level even as bottom-line profit advanced.
Revenue and earnings cleared estimates in recent consecutive releases, while annual sales and profit also advanced. Momentum is evident, but the widening gap between sales growth and operating-profit growth makes margin quality more revealing than headline revenue alone.

What are the financial strengths and risks for Mueller Industries (MLI)?
Short answer
Cash and short-term investments were $1.42B at the Jun 27, 2026 balance-sheet date. Operating cash flow was −$79.97M for the quarter ended Jun 27, 2026, meaning operations used cash. These figures do not establish a cash runway.
Research dated 2026-09-13.
Cash and short-term investments exceed total liabilities, debt is minimal, and additional long-term investments deepen the liquidity reserve. Net cash represents meaningful value, although the market still values the operating franchise far above that reserve. The distress screen reinforces the balance-sheet strength, while the broader quality screen is less emphatic.
The latest period paired strong net income with an operating cash outflow after a run of positive cash generation. Persistence would weaken earnings quality despite the accumulated liquidity. Demand pressure could also travel across several segments at once because construction, plumbing, refrigeration and climate-equipment customers recur throughout Mueller’s sales channels.
How much cash does the business generate or use?

What should you watch next at Mueller Industries (MLI)?
Short answer · as of
The next earnings report is expected on Oct 27, 2026.
Research dated 2026-09-13.
Mueller’s scheduled earnings release should be judged by the relationship between sales and operating profit, not by another revenue beat alone. A return to positive operating cash flow, firmer operating conversion and continued contribution from Industrial Metals and Climate would address the tension in the latest results.
Long-range estimates climb before reversing, while contributor breadth is exceptionally thin. Reported segment direction and cash conversion therefore carry more decision value than the apparent precision of distant consensus figures.
How does Mueller Industries compare with its peers?
Short answer
Mueller Industries's score ranks 5th of 13 in the bounded comparison shown, against 12 same-model peers. These are company scores, not expected investment returns. The set lists named competitors first, then companies in the same data-provider industry classification closest in market value; that classification is the provider's, not our judgment of business similarity.
Research dated 2026-09-13.
Mueller is a downstream manufacturer and distributor rather than a copper extractor or narrowly focused tube producer. It converts several metals and plastics into components ranging from plumbing fittings and forged valves to heat exchangers, duct systems and refrigeration assemblies, then supplements that production with related resale products.
The operating breadth is real, but the economics remain concentrated in Piping Systems. Climate adds specialized heat-transfer and airflow products, while Industrial Metals extends Mueller into forgings, fluid controls and machined components for equipment makers.

What has been published about Mueller Industries (MLI)?
MLI Industrials Stock FAQ
Research dated 2026-09-13; the answers below are from that research, and the full attribution is under Sources. The last 2 questions are answered from this page's own dated data, not from the research.
Is Mueller Industries mainly a copper tubing company?
Copper tubing is important, but Mueller also sells fittings, valves, line sets, forged and machined metal parts, heat exchangers, duct systems and sourced plumbing products. Its revenue reaches beyond tubing through manufacturing and distribution across Piping Systems, Industrial Metals and Climate.
Why does Piping Systems matter so much to Mueller Industries?
Piping Systems is Mueller’s dominant revenue segment and connects the company to plumbing and refrigeration wholesalers, building-material retailers, housing distributors and air-conditioning equipment makers. Changes in those order channels can outweigh movement in the smaller operating segments.
Why did Mueller’s latest profit not translate into operating cash?
The latest period combined strong reported profit with an operating cash outflow, creating a clear gap between earnings and cash conversion. A return to positive operating cash generation would indicate that the divergence did not become persistent.
How do Mueller’s dividends fit with its latest cash outflow?
The recent payment record shows distributions continuing, supported by a large liquidity reserve and minimal debt. The latest operating cash outflow still makes renewed cash generation the relevant test of coverage from the business rather than from accumulated funds.
