Research dated 2026-09-12: Southern Copper is a vertically integrated miner whose copper operations run from ore extraction through smelting, refining and rod production, with molybdenum, silver, zinc and other metals adding meaningful revenue. The business is producing rising profit and cash flow, while the share valuation already reflects unusually strong margins and returns; durability of that operating performance is therefore the key tension.

What is Southern Copper (SCCO), and what does it report?
Short answer · as of
Southern Copper sells processed metals rather than merely extracting copper ore.
Research dated 2026-09-12.
Southern Copper sells processed metals rather than merely extracting copper ore. Its mines, concentrators, smelters, refineries and related plants in Mexico and Peru turn mined material into concentrates, cathodes, rods and valuable byproducts.
Reported revenue is nevertheless dominated by copper. Molybdenum is the largest secondary line, followed by silver, while zinc and other products contribute smaller shares. Results therefore measure an integrated processing chain, but remain chiefly exposed to copper shipment volumes, realized metal prices and the economics of converting ore into saleable metal.
What do the latest results show for Southern Copper (SCCO)?
Short answer · as of
The most recent reported quarter, Q2 FY2026, carried revenue of $4.29B.
Research dated 2026-09-12.
The latest quarter extended the rise in revenue, operating profit, net income and diluted earnings. Sales advanced only modestly from the prior period, yet operating profit and net income grew more quickly, while gross profit eased; operating cash flow also strengthened.
Across recent annual periods, revenue and net income recovered from an earlier contraction and then accelerated. Recent earnings have generally exceeded consensus expectations, although the latest revenue came in slightly below expectations. The operating mechanism remains the interaction of metal output, realized pricing and processing profitability, rather than demand for a branded end product.

What are the financial strengths and risks for Southern Copper (SCCO)?
Short answer
Cash and short-term investments were $7.33B at the Jun 30, 2026 balance-sheet date. Operating cash flow was $1.99B for the quarter ended Jun 30, 2026, meaning operations generated cash. These figures do not establish a cash runway.
Research dated 2026-09-12.
Liquidity is a material strength. Cash and short-term investments have risen sharply across the reported sequence and now nearly cover total debt, while operating cash flow comfortably exceeds recent capital spending. Strong liquidity ratios, high operating and net margins, robust returns and a favorable distress screen reinforce that position.
The more immediate financial risk sits in exposure and valuation rather than near-term funding. Copper supplies most revenue, so weaker copper realizations, lower production or disruption at the Mexican and Peruvian operating network would strike the core earnings engine. Meanwhile, elevated earnings, sales and book-value multiples pair with a comparatively modest free-cash-flow yield, leaving less room for operating performance to disappoint.
How much cash does the business generate or use?
Quarterly operating cash flow shows cash generated or used by operations.

What should you watch next at Southern Copper (SCCO)?
Short answer · as of
The next earnings report is expected on Oct 27, 2026.
Research dated 2026-09-12.
The scheduled earnings release should be tested against a consensus view that calls for a mild retreat from the latest revenue and earnings levels. The useful signals are whether sales hold near their recent plateau, whether profit continues to outpace sales, and whether operating cash flow keeps covering capital outlays while adding to liquidity.
Longer-range consensus estimates do not trace a smooth path: projected revenue and earnings pause or retreat before later expansion. That makes production delivery, metal-price realization and processing margins more informative than a distant headline growth figure. Another earnings beat would matter most if accompanied by durable cash conversion rather than estimate management alone.
How does Southern Copper compare with its peers?
Short answer
Southern Copper's score ranks tied for 1st of 10 in the bounded comparison shown, against 9 same-model peers. These are company scores, not expected investment returns. The set lists named competitors first, then companies in the same data-provider industry classification closest in market value; that classification is the provider's, not our judgment of business similarity.
Research dated 2026-09-12.
Southern Copper differs from a mine-only producer because it controls much of the path from ore through concentrate, smelting, refining and rod production. Its molybdenum, silver, zinc, gold and lead output can contribute alongside copper, but the revenue mix remains far less diversified than the list of metals suggests.
Its operating footprint is concentrated around large Mexican and Peruvian complexes, and it operates as a subsidiary of Americas Mining Corporation. That ownership structure, together with relatively modest reported institutional ownership, distinguishes the shareholder profile from a broadly institution-owned independent miner.

What has been published about Southern Copper (SCCO)?
Common Questions About SCCO (Basic Materials)
Research dated 2026-09-12; the answers below are from that research, and the full attribution is under Sources. The last 3 questions are answered from this page's own dated data, not from the research.
Does Southern Copper sell only copper?
Copper dominates revenue, but molybdenum and silver are meaningful secondary lines, with zinc and other materials adding smaller contributions. Those byproducts broaden the revenue base without changing copper’s central role.
Does Southern Copper stop at producing ore concentrate?
Its operations extend beyond mining and concentration into smelting, refining, cathode production and copper rod production. The company therefore participates in more of the processing chain than a mine-only operator.
Why do Southern Copper’s Mexican and Peruvian complexes matter?
They house the company’s major mines and much of its concentrating, smelting and refining infrastructure. Their integration supports processing control, while geographic and asset concentration makes operating continuity at those sites especially important.
Can Southern Copper’s profit rise when revenue barely moves?
The latest reported period showed exactly that pattern: revenue edged higher while operating profit, net income and diluted earnings advanced more clearly. Sustaining it requires processing economics and cost conversion to remain favorable, especially because copper dominates the sales mix.

What is the SCCO price target?
The analyst consensus price target for Southern Copper Corporation (SCCO) is $162.33 (range $140.00 to $178.00, median $163.00), per FMP data captured Oct 5, 2026. Targets are analyst opinions and change often; they are not a Stock Expert AI forecast.
Does SCCO pay a dividend?
Yes. Southern Copper Corporation (SCCO) shows a trailing 12-month dividend yield of 1.90%, as of Oct 2, 2026, in the data on this page. Payout ratio and cash-flow coverage decide whether it can last, and past dividends do not guarantee future payments.
