Management outlook

  • We expect that our adjusted efficiency ratio will be in the low 60% range in 2026 as strong revenue performance is partially offset by funding pressures and continued investments in our franchise.

  • We anticipate repurchases of approximately $600 million in the third quarter and $300 million in the fourth quarter as the capital distribution strategy pivots from deploying excess capital towards sustainable capital maintenance.

1 · What is it?

What is First Citizens BancShares (FCNCO), and what does it report?

Short answer · as of

Customers place deposits with First Citizens, while households, businesses and professionals borrow through mortgages, construction finance, industrial credit, leases, auto loans and other credit products.

Research dated 2026-09-12.

Customers place deposits with First Citizens, while households, businesses and professionals borrow through mortgages, construction finance, industrial credit, leases, auto loans and other credit products. Treasury management, card processing, asset management, brokerage, private banking, trust and advisory services add fee income alongside lending economics.

First Citizens is more than a regional branch bank. Global Fund Banking and specialized commercial finance extend the business beyond local deposit gathering, while the disclosed segment categories represent selected fee pools rather than the entire consolidated revenue base.

2 · Latest results

What do the latest results show for First Citizens BancShares (FCNCO)?

Short answer · as of

The most recent reported quarter, Q2 FY2026, carried revenue of $3.60B.

Research dated 2026-09-12.

The latest quarter reversed the recent sequential slide in revenue. Gross profit, operating profit, net income and diluted earnings also improved from the preceding period, while reported administrative expense declined; the recovery follows an annual period in which revenue and net income had fallen.

Operating cash flow rebounded sharply from a subdued preceding period. Earnings releases have generally cleared their accompanying revenue estimates, while management says strong revenue performance is being partly offset by funding pressure and continued investment in the franchise.

3 · Financial strengths and risks

What are the financial strengths and risks for First Citizens BancShares (FCNCO)?

Short answer · as of

The MoonshotScore pillars rate balance-sheet strength, an attractive price, durable growth as strengths.

Research dated 2026-09-12.

Operating cash flow stayed positive throughout the displayed history, but its quarter-to-quarter variation is substantial. Debt and the wider liability base make the cost and stability of funding central to the earnings profile.

The combined cash-and-investment balance is overwhelmingly composed of long-term investments carrying an unclassified designation, while cash and short-term investments fell abruptly in the latest period. That combined figure should not be treated as an immediately available cash reserve against debt or liabilities.

The declared distribution continues the recent per-share level. Management is also shifting repurchases from deploying excess capital toward maintaining capital, making the durability of internal cash generation more important to future distributions.

4 · What to check next?

What should you watch next at First Citizens BancShares (FCNCO)?

Short answer · as of

The next earnings report is expected on Oct 23, 2026.

Research dated 2026-09-12.

When First Citizens reports again, watch whether revenue continues recovering and whether operating profit, net income and operating cash flow confirm the same direction. Expense discipline also matters because management expects funding pressure and franchise investment to consume part of the benefit from stronger revenue.

Management has supplied company-specific markers: Global Fund Banking balance growth is expected to moderate after record production and high utilization despite a healthy pipeline, while deposit expectations incorporate the BMO branch acquisition and targeted organic growth. Delivery against those markers would clarify whether balance expansion is translating into durable earnings rather than merely a larger funding requirement.

Consensus averages imply gradual revenue and earnings expansion across the forecast horizon, although analyst coverage narrows in the later periods. Near-term operating evidence therefore carries more weight than the distant averages.

5 · Peer comparison

How does First Citizens BancShares compare with its peers?

Short answer

First Citizens BancShares's score ranks 6th of 6 in the bounded comparison shown, against 5 same-model peers. These are company scores, not expected investment returns. The set lists named competitors first, then companies in the same data-provider industry classification closest in market value; that classification is the provider's, not our judgment of business similarity.

Research dated 2026-09-12.

First Citizens combines a broad branch and digital deposit franchise with Global Fund Banking, lease financing, specialized commercial credit, wealth management and trust services. That mix differs from a branch-led regional-bank archetype because loan utilization and specialized client activity matter alongside local account growth.

Fee streams from asset management, cards, international activity, factoring and deposit services broaden the revenue mix, but they do not replace core banking economics. Deposit funding, commercial balance growth and the expense required to support the franchise remain the principal operating mechanisms.

First Citizens BancShares Financial Services Stock: Key Questions Answered

Research dated 2026-09-12; the answers below are from that research, and the full attribution is under Sources. The last 2 questions are answered from this page's own dated data, not from the research.

Why do First Citizens revenue figures use different bases?

The consolidated quarterly income-statement revenue line is materially larger than the revenue line attached to earnings-estimate comparisons. Each series should be judged against its own history rather than spliced into a single trend.

Sources (as of 2026-09-12): Quarterly income statement (USD thousands); Reported versus estimated, last 8 quarters

How does Global Fund Banking affect First Citizens?

Global Fund Banking adds a specialized source of commercial balance growth beyond the branch franchise. Management describes a healthy pipeline but expects growth to moderate after record production and high utilization.

Sources (as of 2026-09-12): Business description; Management outlook — dated call excerpts

What does the BMO branch acquisition mean for First Citizens deposits?

Management includes the acquired branches alongside targeted deposit growth in its balance-sheet expectations. The practical test is whether those deposits support expansion without intensifying the funding pressure already identified by management.

Sources (as of 2026-09-12): Management outlook — dated call excerpts; Cash and short-term investments over time (USD millions)

Why is First Citizens cash and investments so different from cash?

Long-term investments dominate the combined balance and carry an unclassified designation, while immediately available cash and short-term investments form a much smaller pool. Treating the combined amount as cash would overstate near-term liquidity.

Sources (as of 2026-09-12): Cash, investments and debt; Cash and investment components; Cash and short-term investments over time (USD millions)

What is the FCNCO stock price today?

The last price recorded on this page for First Citizens BancShares, Inc. (FCNCO) is $19.05, as of the Oct 2, 2026 trading session (source: Financial Modeling Prep (FMP) · quote). It is a provider snapshot, not a live exchange feed, so check a brokerage quote before you trade.

Does FCNCO pay a dividend?

Yes. First Citizens BancShares, Inc. (FCNCO) shows a trailing 12-month dividend yield of 7.38%, as of Oct 2, 2026, in the data on this page. Payout ratio and cash-flow coverage decide whether it can last, and past dividends do not guarantee future payments.

Known dates and sources are recorded on their own rows; an em dash or UNRECORDED tier preserves a stored observation without inventing either. The quarterly income statement is provider-standardized (FMP) under one row, and scale definitions — a 0-100 rating, the band ladder, the Piotroski 0–9 range — are fixed rather than measured.
